Hi all! Hope everything has been fantastic. I'm so grateful for EVERY single comment I've been getting~ I read every single one. But I have been so busy last week, with interviews face to face, phone interviews, preparing for my blog, preparing for parties and ...being sick. I'm currently sitting in my bed with my dog at my feet trying not to cough all over my laptop.
Anyways~ thank goodness I took these photos just before I got sick. I shall now attend to everyone's blogs and thank you all.
I had an interesting time taking these photos for this post. I went into the city earlier that day and I was perfectly dressed for the environment. However I came back to my area (which is a much quieter and conservative one) and bought some ice cream. While I was walking around I got lots of "weird" looks from the locals. It was a bit intimidating and I felt self-conscious. I think I felt they thought I was "over-dressed" or too "loud".
*Sigh*
But then, you know, I just took a deep breath and thought, "These people don't know who I am, they cannot judge me on my looks or what I am wearing. I am a good, kind, compassionate person no matter how they look at me". That, and I also had a Madonna song in my head. And we all know Madonna believes in being self confident and to not take crap from anyone else.
In conclusion, I was being stared at because I was in a leather skirt, had dark lipstick and had leather thigh high boots. I was getting "looks" but I should never let it get me down, because I was being myself. Sometimes its easy to forget that message, but I have to remind myself every day, and everyone who reads this post should remember this message too.
xx Natalie
Natalie, I really love this post! I think I need constant reminder that it is okay being myself, even if I attract attention or weird looks! One thing I always find weird is wearing heels during the day. You live in Sydney too, so you know exactly what I mean! Sydneysiders wear thongs and short skirts and go to the beach, and sometimes I get looks as if saying "this is not New York! This is not london! What are you wearing?!" I guess the really laid back lifestyle does not go with wearing heels 24-7! But hey you look fabulous all the time and sometimes I do think I need to just ignore people and wear whatever I want!

WOow these thigh high boots (absolutely) do not fail to "Glamazonize" your Allure, AND the glossy harmony jumper / lipstick (as subtly as sulfurously) achieves to make the Trendy difference Here I must say Dear !!!

ReplyDeletereally this outfit is amazing!!! you look very beautiful. Gooseberry color looks great
ReplyDeleteThis is a really brilliant post! I love the fierceness of your outfit, but you still look really polished and chic, with just an edge of grunge. Madonna is king, you are so right, and small town starers ain't got nothing on her! xx

Love the knit! x
ReplyDeleteDamn you are pretty! Love the boots :)
ReplyDeleteI can totally empathize to your experience with staring. In my little city I always have to think what I should or should not wear. People look weird if I, or someone else, puts on too showing clothes. I don't meen showing by revealing but showing as something not so normal. And I try to do like you do and just go the way I want to and think that if they think I'm strange, I know I look beautiful :) So let's not let anyone else pick our outfits okay? ;)

you look so sexy lady! that is one hot outfit!! we love your over-sized jumper with mini leather skirt, and chunky jewelery!! and your boots are just WOW!!!

I love both your outfit and your post. Everything you wrote is SO right. Sometimes I feel like the fact that I'm a small town girl stops me from doing and wearing whatever I want. I hate seeing judgemental people giving the others strange looks. That's why, I'm more than glad to see that you're doing your own thing :) Keep it up, girl!

Love the burgundy sweater <3 And I agree with you entirely; people are going to stare and judge no matter what you wear, so you might as well wear what you like (: great blog, btw.

Brilliant look. We dress for ourselves, not others, so their opinions (which vary) don't have to count. Like you, I'll take chances in fashion and sometimes attract negative comments, usually from people who are jealous at how far out I'm going. I've learned to sluff off those remarks and so should you. Your style is individual and terrific!
ReplyDeleteLove your look dear!!
ReplyDeleteNatalie, first off. Great post..loving every single piece and girlfriend you look HOT, so please don' let it upset you in anyway. If others are looking at you, it's because you look good and some might be either jealous or they are drooling over how HOT you look. I love it when people take risk in fashion because there is no harm in it at all. Sometimes, we get it wrong but it's no big deal. I respect that you are showing confidence and poise. lastly, hope you get well soon.. love, Sheryl

ReplyDeletehow right you are natalie! i'm sure they were just jealous because they are not brave enough to wear whatever they want, or they could never be as sexy & beautiful as you are inside your soul,, & outside for everyone to see.

Well I think the styling of this outfit is just fabulous but, I can certainly imagine it getting a few looks out in suburbia! Mind you I am sure it attracted some attention in the city too; maybe just a different kind !~)
ReplyDeleteGreat Post, Get well soon.
i love this look you look fantastic and people who give you 'looks' are just jealous that they cant pull the look off ever !
ReplyDeleteI take it as a compliment when people stare, because they're always the kind of people i wouldn't want to dress like and wouldn't want to like my clothes anyway! haha you look great,l like a classy take on Pretty Woman, LOVE IT

Don't let other's opinions affect you! That's the worst, because you end up stifling your own individuality.
ReplyDeleteI love the outfit, especially the sweater and the skirt. They look amazing paired together.

Natalie I think you look lovely! Don't worry about getting looks, I think a lot of the time people are just admiring a nice outfit rather than judging someone for wearing something a bit 'out there'!
ReplyDeleteIt's hard sometimes to ignore the looks, as we all want to feel confident in what we're wearing. But you look amazing and you shouldn't let the looks of a select few people get to you :) xx
i love it! your purse is amazing!

That is so funny. I'm also from Sydney so it would be interesting to know which suburb that was in! Hahaha. I think it may be the thigh high boots. People here can be so narrow-minded, they must assume those boots are only worn by certain girls! There is no such thing as parisian chic, only flip flops. Lol.
ReplyDeleteI think you look fabulous :-)
They probably stared because they had never seen super style before... rock on lady! you look great! -xo

I love you look! great boots and sweater- you look amazing:)

Those thigh high boots are so hot!!! I love how you paired it up with a chunky knit and leather skirt. It gives it a little bit of sex appeal without being overly sexy.
ReplyDeleteI get self concious in my neighborhood esp. when my bf and i are out taking outfit pictures. I hate when people walk by and stare. It makes me feel....odd. But I always ignore them and just keep doing my own thing. I use to also feel self concious whenever I would wear my JC's out but screw whatever one else thinks. As long as you feel good about what you have on that's all that matters. Plus you have great style :)

I think that when people look at you then you're worth looking at! take it that way.. at least I do ;)

I really love that colour! Nice, deep burgundy; and those boots are really hot! Though I know that I can never pull them off.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I'm glad that you posted on that last part of your post. It's hard when ever people are judging you; and in the past; I used to feel really conscious... But hey, I agree with what you said; to never let those people; who don't know you, judge you;
Really love this quote that goes like this;
"Those who matter, don't care; and those who care, don't matter".

ReplyDeleteNatalie, what an inspiring post! Thank you for the reminder:) I definitely have experienced a similar feeling before. Anytime, I feel self-conscious or deflated, it helps to walk a little taller and fake the confidence even when I'm not "feeling" it. Yes, u're right, filling our mind with positive affirmations is the way to go! You are rocking those thigh highs and leather skirt! You look great! -A
